Peru in Flames: Discussing Ways Forward with Former President of Peru Francisco Sagasti

On Wednesday, February 15, The Onero Institute hosted an event with the former president of Peru, Francisco Sagasti, discussing Peru's future. On December 7, 2022, Peruvian President Pedro Castillo attempted a coup d'etat and was deposed. Chaos ensued, over 60 people died, and the police's response was met with widespread condemnation. President Sagasti, one of the most highly regarded and praised former Presidents, discussed this current crisis and future options for Peru with students. Thanks to Michael Shifter, the former president of Inter-American Dialogue, and Cynthia McClintock, a professor here at GWU, for their valuable insights and contributions on our panel.
